The Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA) has announced that the 2025 International Roadcheck will take place from May 13 to 15. This high-visibility inspection blitz spans Canada, the United States, and Mexico, aiming to enhance road safety through comprehensive vehicle and driver inspections.
? What’s New in 2025?
This year, CVSA has identified two primary focus areas for the Roadcheck:
- Driver Hours-of-Service (HOS) Compliance: Inspectors will closely examine drivers’ records of duty status (RODS), ensuring adherence to legal driving hours and rest periods.
- Tire Safety: Special attention will be given to tire conditions, including tread depth, inflation, and signs of damage such as cuts, bulges, or improper repairs.
?️ What to Expect During Inspections
During the 72-hour period, CVSA-certified inspectors will conduct Level I inspections, which involve a comprehensive 37-step process that includes an examination of driver operating requirements and vehicle mechanical fitness. Special attention will be given to the driver’s record of duty status (RODS) and the vehicle’s tires.
- Driver Documentation: Verification of commercial driver’s license, medical examiner’s certificate, RODS, and Drug and Alcohol Clearinghouse status (U.S. only.)
- Vehicle Condition: Examination of brakes, cargo securement, coupling devices, driveline components, fuel and exhaust systems, lighting devices, steering mechanisms, suspensions, and tires. If a vehicle passes without critical violations, it may receive a CVSA decal, valid for three months. Vehicles with out-of-service violations will be restricted from operating until issues are resolved.
✅ Preparation Tips for Canadian Truckers
To ensure compliance and avoid potential violations, here’s a few things you can do:
- Review HOS Regulations: Ensure accurate and complete RODS and familiarize yourself with current hours-of-service rule.
- Inspect Tires: Check for proper inflation, adequate tread depth, and any signs of damage or wear.
- Verify Documentation: Ensure all required documents are up-to-date and readily accessible.
- Conduct Pre-Trip Inspections: Perform thorough vehicle checks before each trip, focusing on areas highlighted in the Roadcheck.
